HOLIDAY GIFT BASKETS

Few gifts are appreciated as much as a designer gift basket loaded with goodies. What other gift can boast of a beautiful package the receiver can keep, along with items selected thoughtfully by the giver? Heartfelt touches combined with effective designing will make the receiver of your gift basket smile in appreciation at your talent and thoughtfulness.

To begin creating your holiday gift basket, select the size of the basket needed according to the amount of items you will be placing in the basket.

SIMPLE STEPS TO CREATING YOUR HOLIDAY GIFT BASKET

• Cut your material in three inch width and leave enough length to circle around the basket three times. Once the cutting is complete, use a fabric glue to hem the width of the material so no rough edges are left showing. You only need to fold the sides over less than a quarter of an inch on each side before for the gluing.

• Weave the fabric through the top two layers of the basket until a circle is made around the basket. Make a small bow and let the remaining fabric hang half way down the basket. Cut any additional fabric away and hem the ends with fabric glue.

• Choose your items to be placed in the basket. Suggested items can range from assortments of chocolates, a bottle of wine, ornaments, collectibles, stationary, and more. Personal touches such as hand-written recipes, homemade pastries, and small devotional books are popular items which will allow you to imprint your signature on the basket.

The key to your gift basket is to not leave it too empty. Strategically placing your items will assist it in looking fuller than it actually is. If your items do not take up much space, use filler for the basket such as floral arrangements or extra material placed in the basket as “bedding.” On the other hand, overstuffing your basket so that items are falling out is not desirable either. Part of the joy of receiving a gift basket is the visual appeal of the basket. If the basket seems to be overstuffed, remove the excess and create a mini version of your large basket and gift the person two baskets. The joy in receiving a miniature as well as a large basket will be even more delightful for the person receiving it!
